If Mold is Everywhere, What’s the Big Deal?
3/10/2021 (Permalink)
Mold is a fungus and it is a natural part of both our indoor and outdoor environments. There are hundreds of different types of molds, all of which thrive in moist environments. In nature mold plays an important part in breaking down organic matter, indoors such a role is not needed.
Three important things to remember
- Not all molds are created equal
- Not everyone is affected in the same way
- With more exposure you are more likely to develop mold-related symptoms
The key to mold growth indoors is to control the amount of moisture in the air. Dehumidifiers and air conditioners will help. The humidity needs to be below 60%, between 35% and 50% is even better. Mold thrives in warm damp bathrooms, humid kitchens and damp cellars.
